The Beatitudes

Blessed are the poor in spirit
For theirs is the kingdom of heaven
Blessed are those who mourn
For they will be comforted
Blessed are the meek
For they shall inherit the earth
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness
For they will be filled
Blessed are the merciful
For they will be shown mercy
Blessed are the pure in heart
For they shall see God
Blessed are the peacemakers
For they will be called sons of God
Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake
For theirs is the kingdom of heaven
Matthew 5:3-9

What does Jesus mean...we’ll be blessed if we’re sad or grieving?

How about not if, but when.

When we’re sad, we’ll be comforted by Him.
When we show another kindness and mercy, we can expect God will show us His mercy...whether through circumstance, another person, nature, or perhaps not until we see Him in heaven. But we will receive the blessing. He promises us, as He promised Noah through the symbol of the rainbow.

We have to look at it right...we might not be filled with vindication when we thirst for righteousness, lest we succumb to pride...however we will be filled with something God-given...a feeling of peace, an unusual ability to let something go,
an attitude that quenches the thirst.

Blessings come in all shapes and sizes, in unexpected vehicles, in unusual places.
We must be open to them, open to the unpredictable, supernatural
power of God’s love for us.
